My fourth video of scenes from around Chile’s capital. This video is mostly a salute to the free, outdoor exercises classes which took place every weekend at parks within Santiago. Dozens of Santiaguinos attended these classes, shaking their rumps and working up a sweat. Most of the classes were Zumba style, with one or more instructors directing dance-like movements set to thumping Latin beats. However, in Parque Cerro San Cristobal, Santiago’s largest metro park, there was an outdoor spinning class. The instructor of the spinning class was a fit Chilena who could grind down her participants into a worn-out, panting mess. When participants started to wilt from the vigor of her regimen, she taunted them, saying “que paso? Vamos!” – “What happened? Let’s go!”
Of course, it wouldn’t be right to make a video about Santiago without including some street musicians. Most of the drumming troupes in the city were just downright awesome. Few things get the blood pumping and the spirit elevated like a well-syncopated, fiercely energetic drum troupe.
