It’s incredibly rare for a Chinese home to have an oven. A stove, a rice cooker, a microwave, and an electric kettle are usually what you find in a typical apartment in China.
I can’t remember ever being in an American home that didn’t have an oven. After all, how can one make turkey dinner without an oven? The oven is such a common part of life in America that Americans used the word to create a famous idiomatic expression. The phrase “She’s got a bun in the oven” is used to refer to a pregnant woman. So, all of us started out as a bun. After that, things got complicated.
