Quite a few old men in Anyang keep songbirds as pets. The old men will often take their caged birds and meet at a park or sidewalk area. The bird men meet to sit, socialize, and give their caged birds some sunlight and encouragement to sing. The cages are hung on tree limbs or other sturdy fixtures. Oddly enough, many of the birds do sing when their cages are placed near each other. I don’t know what species of bird they are, but I do know that they are incredible songsters. When passing by a group of these caged birds, the air is filled with liquid whistles, melodious trilling, and exuberant twittering. The bird song is so beautiful as to make my spine tingle.
