New York’s Hudson River Valley is home to numerous farms. The rich soils are great for growing all manner of crops. Fall in the Hudson Valley means fields of squash to meet the demands of Halloween and Thanksgiving. But it’s not just crops you’ll find on the farms. You’ll find farms that raise all kinds of animals: cows, chickens, ducks, pigs, goats, emus, ostriches, and camels.
My friend brought me to a farm in Orange County, NY, that kept a bunch of camels. When we showed up, some guy was feeding bread to the camels. I snapped a bunch of pictures, amused by how camels move their jaw in a cockeyed, sideways motion when chewing.
